sciencefriday: Attention Science Club: Tonight’s lunar eclipse…

sciencefriday:

Attention Science Club: Tonight’s lunar eclipse is the perfect opportunity to practice some observation, so we want to see what you see! Share your pics here (or tweet them at us with #ObserveEverything).

Totality begins at 6:25am ET tomorrow morning – on the East Coast, you’ll be able to see both the sun and the eclipse at the same time! And as you’re watching tonight, some things to keep in mind:

  • Listen to our story for some viewing and photography tips.
  • Mr. Eclipse gives a good rundown of what a lunar eclipse is.
  • The moon doesn’t go black during a lunar eclipse – it actually becomes a deep red. Earthsky.org explains why.
  • Make note of the color and atmospheric conditions. The color of this eclipse connected to the amount of dust and debris in the atmosphere. Is this eclipse particular dark, or light? What does it look like by you?

We can’t wait to see what you see!

It’s been clear around here lately. Methinks up before dawn to see the eclipse is a good plan.
