So, am in New York right now!! (Lies, I’m totally in newark instead but let’s pretend that’s not true). Much excitement, and I shall get some Caribbean pics up soon! The highlights so far include being called american, eating pizza, and getting two seats to myself both flights

Zippy was 3 hours away from me for a few hours and I didn’t get to see her but I am BEYOND EXCITED that she is coming to see me in a month. A MONTH. I don’t understand how people think she’s American. She doesn’t have a thick accent or anything but let’s be honest, she doesn’t sound American. Maybe it’s because she’s so nice and personable :)

Be jealous that I get to see her.
And raise your hand if you want to hang out and show her American stuff for a week. Disney and I want to take her camping on Assateague and eat crabs but that’s all we’ve got so far. I’ll be working and she says she wants to meet my crazy boss so that’ll happen. Prepare yourselves for Zippy spam. Twice in one year!

Confession: I had a moment of wondering, “Why is this zippawingo person Alix is reblogging putting a parenthetical aside addressed to me in her post?”

My Tumblr ego is out of control.

objects from Bertha’s Attic Song

!!! I’m so pleased that Put on a play, it’s a bit risque! made it into this gifset. Sinead threw that line out as we were sitting at a table drinking wine and rewriting the lyrics from Tangled and I was like, OMG YES and then later realized it meant we actually had to find a way to put on a risque play in a production design friendly way.

Enter our magical production designer Jen Hwang and her fabulous shadow puppet skills. Seriously, the girl is crazy magic, I gave her a pinterest photo and said, “Like this, but can you make her kind of saucey and like, vaguely Victorian lady slutty?” and she gave us the gif above.

Bertha’s Attic Song

YES, GIF-AGE HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. THIS IS MY ONLY MEASURING STICK FOR SUCCESS.

I was driving and at work and then on homework-help and puppy duty all day today, until about 10 minutes ago, when I finally got the chance to see it.

windandwater:

Their hearts, wounded with sweet words, overflowed, and their joy was like swords, and they passed in thought out to regions where pain and delight flow together and tears are the very wine of blessedness.

My little homage to Kissing in the Rain: Episode 5.

I loved everything about this episode, and I did promise to make KitR puppets, so alas, here we are. ;D

See the video here!

That video made my day. And then it made my week.

I thought the video was going to be a making-of video and then it was SO MUCH BETTER AHHHHHHHHHH. THE VOICES.

Sunday, April 27th, 2014

Pretty sure this won’t be the song Sinead sings in tomorrow’s KiTR musical parody episode. But it is about love, and accurately sums up my sad career as an interpreter of musical-parody-episode clues. And if Sinead did sing it it would be kind of awesome, because it’s a very cool song.

Warning: Lyrics contain a naughty word. And not just any naughty word, but as Ralphie would say, the word, the big one, the queen-mother of naughty words. Multiple times.

Sunday’s ClueFor every day between now and Monday 4/28, we’ll be reblogging a post that contains a clue related to our upcoming musical parody project and tagging it “shipwrecked puzzles”.

Tangled + Jane Eyre! I mean, how could we not. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s musical parody sketch on Shipwrecked!

Sigh. I confess I have no idea. In honor of my not having any idea, I’m going to post a favorite song of mine that I’m fairly sure is not the song Sinead is going to sing tomorrow. But it accurately sums up my attitude about my sad career as an interpreter of clues.

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)

Opening lines of Für Elise

todayinhistory:

April 27th 1810: Beethoven composes Für Elise

On this day in 1810, the famous German composer Ludwig van Beethoven composed his piano piece Für Elise. Over the course of his life he composed nine symphonies, five piano concertos, thirty-two piano sonatas and sixteen string quartets, despite losing his hearing towards the end of his life. This piece was not published until 1867, long after Beethoven’s death, as the manuscript had been lost. However when it was recovered, Beethoven’s manuscript for the composition was dated 27th April 1810. Für Elise translates as ‘For Elise’, and scholars have long debated the identity of the woman who inspired Beethoven to write this beautiful piece. It is now one of the most famous piano pieces of all time and one of Beethoven’s best known works.

Breathtaking….. but where is it?

Some sleuthing around at the linked flickr site iandjbannerman reveals it to be Hanham Court Gardens in Bristol. They have a Facebook page and a website, which states, “We are no longer open to the public, but Hanham Court Gardens can be booked for private functions and tours.”

D. Putnam Brinley, Overhanging Tree

(per this auction listing)

From his Wikipedia entry:

Daniel Putnam Brinley (March 8, 1879 – July 31, 1963) was an American muralist and painter. He was born in Newport, Rhode Island…

In 1904, Brinley married his childhood friend, Kathrine Gordon Sanger, whom he had begun courting during the 1890s. Kathrine would later achieve fame in her own right as an author of travel books. The two of them spent the next four years traveling through Europe, including trips to Rome, Florence, Venice, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. They then spent nearly two years in Paris, where Daniel was influential in organizing the New Society of American Painters in Paris…

During the 1930s Brinley earned considerable fame and profit from his murals. A biographical sketch of Brinley featured in the 22nd edition of Who’s Who in America, issued in the early 1940s, identified him as Republican and of the Episcopalian faith…

Brinley died on July 31, 1963 in New Canaan, following a brief illness. He was survived only by his wife.

He and his wife were married for 59 years. I’m impressed by that.

(Alysson Hall I made awkward eye contact with you on the bus yesterday and I kind of wanted to signal that the AOJE is a really amazing show and you are a great actress but I’m not sure it worked because the 99 is a crowded place so hi, go you)

(go you to everyone else too!)

I knew it. I knew you were a fan of the show. Signal received. I didn’t know for sure – so I didn’t wanna approach you on Granville street and be like “Hey” in case I just had something on my face or something. You never know on the 99. Sometimes people just look at you funny.

I believe Alysson has said she works, or worked at one point, as a waitress. It would freak me out to be eating in a restaurant and have her appear to take my order.

Like, a lot.

I recently took a trip up to Maine for a few days. Though it was too early for most warblers, we did see a few bright yellow palm warblers! They definitely stand out in the brown and tan scenery.
