Monty Python’s The Meaning Of Life

Guys this skit came out in the 1960s

No, it didn’t. The Meaning of Life came out in 1983. I know, because I saw it it in the theater the week it opened with my high school buddies. We didn’t know anything about it going in, and were expecting something with a narrative like Holy Grail or Life of Brian. From the opening short feature (The Crimson Permanent Assurance) we realized something was up.

Seeing the Mr. Creosote scene in that crowded theater, surrounded by an audience that had no idea what was coming, was the most memorable movie-going experience I’ve ever had. The audience was equally divided between people screaming and people laughing to the point of tears; by the end of the scene everyone had done both.
