mosheogrady:

tonight !!!

This show was amazing. Eight musicians (two drummers, two bassists, three guitarists/synthesizer players, one violinist) making alternately droning/minimalist/melodic post-rock that built from barely audible to beating against my body like ocean waves too strong to stand against, so emotional and sincere, each piece stretching on for 20 minutes or more, until it felt like a world, with time to inhabit that world, reflect on it, grow comfortable with it, and experience it change into something else.

It’s not the type of music everyone likes. But the Fonda Theater was filled to capacity tonight with people who do like it, and I loved being up by the stage with that crowd behind me, close to the performers, practically part of their circle, eight people facing inward, intent on each other, barely acknowledging the crowd, making the music I know so well from the albums, but so much better live, so much more human and real. It was like standing in front of a Van Gogh or Monet, knowing that this is it, not a copy, not a reproduction, not bits down a wire making colored dots on a screen, but the real thing, whole and true.

So wonderful.
