Claude Monet
Water Lillies (1907)

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Monet’s water lily paintings were made in this very garden at Giverny captured by Eugene Atget just a few years prior. Atget may have even photographed here to get in the head of Monet. He would often predict what types of images were useful stand-ins for artists’ preliminary sketches.
