A different mom: Why I started to write:
Dear kids,
I began writing on tumblr for you. As I am getting older I am noticing that my memory is slowly fading. I know someone who was diagnosed with alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is no joke. It’s scary.
I thought this would be a good way to record some of my past for Super Girl since she is always asking me about my childhood.
I’ve also noticed that writing is helping me think clearly. There are times that I am faced with issues related to adoption, parenting, or our race that I can’t resolve or answer. I seem to sort things out easier once I write them down.
And the most important reason is for me to practice what I’ve been preaching to Super Girl. Her teacher told her she needs to write daily in a diary to improve her writing skills. I know my writing skills are horrible so I am hoping this will improve them.
