A new Jane Austin Fan

I’ve never been a Jane Austin fan.  This was always my mom and sister’s thing. While they watched the 6 hour film and read books and visited Jane Austin’s house in England…. I watched Star Wars and learned HTML.  To me, the story has never been interesting or accessible.

But I have LOVED Lizzie Bennet Diaries.  So much so, that a friend invited me over to watch the 6 hour movie version. And I adored it!  I finally get it!

My sister and mom may never let me live it down, but I am hooked!  Thank you for opening up this world to me!

OH MY GOD I know I shouldn’t care and sorry Mary Beth, but this whole text post just made me so angry.

First of all “Jane AUSTEN” AUSTEN. It’s bad enough you don’t remember it from school, but you could’ve googled it for God’s sake. Second, there’s no six hours movie version. Maybe you meant the tv series. God, I know I’m a nit picker but these sorts of mistakes just make me go nuts.

Then how is being geeky something that stops you from being an Austen fan? I’m a huge Star Wars fan, and I love sci-fi, and I don’t see why this should’ve stopped me from enjoying other things – I feel like people tend to compartimentalize genres and what you can or cannot like. So if, say, I like comics I surely cannot be into fashion. Who the fuck said that?

Another thing (I realize this is a completely gratuitous tirade against a poor person who was just trying to be nice, but she’ll just have to suffer because I’m feeling nervous today): how has she even turned into an ‘Austin’ Fan, exactly? Because she watched the BBC miniseries?

Jane Austen wrote other books other than Pride and Prejudice, and even if you were only a P&P fan I’d expect you to at least read the damn book before anything.

End of spiteful gratuitous comment.

When my daughter was born she couldn’t do anything right. It made me so angry. I mean, she was just completely helpless. They squeegeed her mouth to get the fluid out, and then we all just stood there watching her try to breathe. I mean, she legit did not know how. We actually were curious whether or not she’d be able to do it; that’s how bad she was at it. She eventually managed, but give me a break. That really pissed me off.

I know I shouldn’t care and sorry Julia, but I have to say it didn’t stop there. Can you believe she couldn’t even feed herself? It took days, literally, for her to figure out how to breastfeed properly. And then she was always accidentally swallowing air and that made her upset and she’d cry and we’d have to burp her. It would actually have been funny if it hadn’t been so annoying.

Then there was the time she decided to try to start walking. For God’s sake; you would not believe how horrible she was at it. She would haul herself upright on the edge of the sofa and stand there looking at us like, see what I did? Aren’t I awesome? It was pathetic. And then she’d try to take a step, except she had no fucking clue and bam! down she’d go. Who the fuck can’t even walk, I ask you? It made me so mad.

I could go on but you get the picture. I mean seriously, what is wrong with some people?
