Below the cut: A long wall of text in which I look at clues about Gigi and the next series.

I thought this part from Bernie Su’s first post yesterday was pretty interesting:

Q: Me again! I have really enjoyed seeing the Gigi spin-off but the use of domino still snags at me slightly. You previously said that Gigi’s arc is told through domino rather than her own personal channel for a clear reason – which we now know to be so that Wickham could be tracked down. While I understand that this is necessary to move the story along from a story writing point of view, I still don’t think it makes a massive amount of sense from an in world point of view. Care to wade in on this?

A: Yeah, it’s a weird balance. I say “weird” more for me because I’m trying to not give stuff away. I know it “snags” a lot of people but it was a move that really needed to be done.

I kinda thought that the Friday press release and subsequent Gigi/Fitz conversation would clue stuff in but I’m seeing nothing short of a dozen theories in the tags so obviously it wasn’t clear at all. :P

So yes, Pemberley Digital, a video/tech/app company, airing personal high level exec content on a demo, would be rather odd. But what if the long game of Pemberley Digital was more than a video/tech/app company?

At first I assumed this is just saying that they’re setting up Gigi and Pemberley (and Domino) to be part of the next series, or at least to be involved in establishing that series in-universe. But maybe Bernie Su was hinting that there’s something more specific out there to be found that the fans haven’t uncovered yet. Similar to the lydiabennettape.com site, in the time before that was actually discovered.

I don’t think that’s actually likely. But just in case I took a look back at the clues, to see what I might have missed.

The first thing I looked at was the Pemberley press release. Here’s what I assume is the most important part of that:

“Despite some initial doubts about the personal subject matter regarding the demo participants, the uniqueness of this application makes our potential almost limitless,” said Anne Reynolds, General Manager of Pemberley Digital. “We believe that Domino presents an exciting and dynamic channel of narrative documentation and communication. We will be seeking new partners aggressively and immediately.”

“Given the progressive nature of Pemberley Digitial, we are not seeking a mass quantity of partners, but will rather be making selective quality alliances where we can both benefit mutually in the long term.”

The ensuing Twitter conversation between Gigi and Fitz looked like this:

There was one more Gigi update the following day: Changing her jam to Rainer Maria’s “Hell and High Water”, calling out the lyric “a better version of me” in particular. Here are the lyrics of the song:

So, is Gigi identifying with the song because the “better version of me” is herself, and she’s New Gigi, who no longer is the pretty little fool who fell for Wickham? Or is the “better version of me” Lizzie, her new girl-crush?

Where is Gigi (maybe) moving to? Somewhere closer to Lizzie? Is there going to be a Lizzie job offer/partnership with Pemberley in the show’s conclusion, to go along with the romantic Dizzie resolution, and echo Austen’s ending which, after all, was not just a matter of love but also of a fairly resounding financial success on the part of the hitherto-financially-insecure Elizabeth?

I assume Bernie was expressing surprise that these clues hadn’t been picked apart in more detail by fans. I think I’m probably not as anxious to pick things apart myself as I was earlier because I know the show is ending. Instead of constantly looking down the tracks and trying to anticipate the next development, I’m just trying to enjoy what’s left of the ride.
