I like good short stories like that; even this one that left me unnerved to realize that the bizarre wiki blog format has now become at least as easy to read as conventional fiction. My god what’s next: novels in C++ ?
Yet it was almost like reading a new Kurt Vonnegut.

It must be a generational thing or maybe just a matter of taste, but that did nothing for me, but I loved the adventures of Kilgore Trout.
How is the house coming?
I have been embroiled in an HOA squabble for the last month, my God! It is really scary when you start to see how much power we have given these groups and how little due process they have. Last night was the meeting the bastards pissed me off, here I have been studying state law, I have read most of the bylaws, covenants and resolutions, and they fill two bound notebooks, and the jerks turn out to be quite reasonable. All that work and all that rehearsing in my head what they were going to say and what my pithy remark was going to be and we ended up coming to quite agreeable terms on some things and the others were too arcane for that setting.
Item 2:
They built their trail on my property years ago, something we found out surveying for the fence, because the dog chased a horse, which is what the whole mess was about… I proposed to trade them an eighth acre of their open space for the couple hundred square feet they are encroaching on my property and they seemed interested! My wife was quite embarrassed that I even asked, but hey, you never know unless you ask.

I’ve been afraid to re-read Vonnegut in case it is not nearly so good as I remember it to be. Some things are best left in the memory box.
Our house deal fell through, a neighbor said he put a hex on our moving away because he enjoys our family as neighbors (selfish bastard) and then – as a result of the hex so says my wife – the financing didn’t come together as planned and I caught swine flu or something that developed into pnuemonia and nearly died before I could get a chance to straighten out the whole deal – so someone else ended up buying it for less than we were willing to pay. Never underestimate the power of voodoo.

Good luck! Sounds reasonable and it is promising that they want a proposal, yet remember for the HOA: talk (and a poorly worded letter) is cheap.
Is the blue circle where the HOA horse trail cuts across your property?
I don’t see any permanent marker in the second picture, but that may be that I don’t know what to look for.

Sorry to hear of your health problems, hope you get better. I had pneumonia a few years ago (we sound like 2 old guys talking about their aches and pains) anyway, I had it a few years ago and I don’t think my lungs ever really recovered, I think I may have asthma now possibly from the pneumonia, my diagnosis not the doctors’. Bottom line if there are some breathing exercises or something you can do to get that capacity back, do it.
Ditto sorry about the house, but these things sometimes happen, at least you have been through the process, have all your paperwork put together etc so the next time it will be easier and you will be wiser.
The blue circle is where the trail crosses our property. Sometime when we have more time I’ll get into what I’ve learned about HOA’s in the last month. Just a teaser, they basically are not under the Constitution, and aren’t under many state laws. The one state law they are under is written in such a way that for the most part it is just a series of section titles, for instance the law may say the HOA must have a procedure as to how to handle reserve funds, but nothing is said about how that procedure should work. I picked that one because the legislature did fill in the blanks on that one last month, but there are probably 15 other bullet points that have nothing below them. It is a lawless system that almost 20% of Americans live under.
