From country singer Charlie Daniels, marveling that atheist Michael Newdow is willing to sue to try to prevent religious content from being included in the Obama inauguration ceremony: He must be a miserable man:
If we deny God His rightful place in the affairs of this nation should we expect Him to intervene when we need protection? Just what do you think has kept us safe from terrorist attacks since 9/11? It certainly wasn’t the atheists.

As someone not religious, I always am completely awestruck that people think like this. Honestly, except as a sociological snapshot of one guy’s thoughts, this wasn’t worth the post.

I find it interesting when liberals that are constantly lecturing us on tolerance pick one overtly religious phrase out of a piece that is for the most part lecturing religious tolerance. And then feel the need to distance themselves from the author. If CD had said the same thing only his name was Greenwald and he was talking about the Muslim faith or gay rights, there would be great rejoicing.
JBC should read CD’s site more often, it is a mirror of this site, Charlie pontificates and then rarely gets mixed up in the fray, the one difference I see is that it seems the threads are closed to comments after he writes his next piece. For the most part it is a bunch of guys patting Charlie and themselves on the back without much dissenting viewpoints, kind of like the good old days before I came here.

Tolerance is just that, tolerating. JBC wasn’t saying ‘we need to take his right to free speech away’ or ‘he shouldn’t allowed to practice his beliefs.’ That’s what tolerance is.

I agree with Rand, which is why I am skeptical of global warming, but in this country we honor religious freedom until they decide to use faith to kill us or ruin our economy. As Charlie said, if you don’t want to hear the prayer, shut off the TV. If Charlie believes God has kept us safe that is his prerogative (my bet is smart bombs, Global Hawk, and the US Marines (reason)).

You know, you’re right, I’ve been acting like Enky here, I apologize. I got a little pissed off because there have been numerous times I have been called a bigot, a racist, and such for pointing out the fallacy of someone’s religion, Islam. And they mean to kill us, Charlie just believes there is someone up there watching after us because we believe in the REAL God. I was just a little upset that it seems ok to criticize one religion but not another.
I’m not even sure why I’m defending him, I basically agree with you guys on this. When I was in maybe 5th grade one of the nuns said that only Catholics believed in the real God and only they could go to heaven. Being an inquisitive young lad I asked her how that could be true, I had protestant friends that I assumed believed in the same God, were good people, where would they go when they died? She said they had a nice place for them but it wasn’t the real heaven. That was my first skepticism of organized religion in general, and the Catholic religion in particular. It was at that point that I began to realize Catholics didn’t get an upgraded room because they believed in the real God it was because they put their money in the REAL collection plate.
