Since you guys have such a well rounded love of political comedy you should go see An American Carol, it wasn’t as funny as I thought it would be, some pretty serious stuff underlining the slapstick, but it had its moments. The part where O’Reilly is interviewing Moore and Rosie and Rosie goes into her tirade about the 911 conspiracy crap and then tries to pull Moore into it saying “we’re documentary film makers, we expose the truth, right Michael” and Moore moves closer to Bill shaking his head like he doesn’t know what the hell she’s talking about. The other scene that Jayson will love is when they “pull a Chamberlain”. Neville is there signing a treaty and the next scene he is shinning Hitler’s boots. When Kelsey Grammer as Patton tells Chamberlain that Tojo, Hitler and Mussolini are playing him for a fool, he looks up from his shoe shine stool and says that he has a treaty that will ensure peace or something to that effect, the trio then breaks into a medley of peace songs, it was great! There was even a mention of J.A.Y.S.O.N from Lies.com in the credits, way at the end, you’ll have to be the last one out of the theater to see it.

Actually no one is ‘talking about Biden’s lies’ except for Senator Foghorn Leghorn there right after the debate. All I hear is that people are saying they’re kinda surprised Sarah didn’t put her foot in her mouth, but maybe it was a little too folksy.
Ah yeah? I’m in the credits, thats sweet of those guys, but they never asked my permission. I almost get the joke… or something. Us liberals? I could go on a whole thing about how I’m not but I’ve said it once. I feel like I should say something about ‘you conservatives’ but you’re not even that, shcb. You’re post-political, you said yourself that you just vote straight party, a damning self indictment of utter narrowness of thought, no wonder you’ll come on here and defend Ms. Potato Head. I vote a straight ticket because I understand the political process in our country, it has nothing to do ideology or adherence to one’s ideology, it is simply a practical matter whichever side of the isle you’re on.
I kind of thought the whole “independent, look at both sides, make a rational decision” wasn’t going to last, you’re a liberal through and through.
Ms. Potato Head? You still think she’s stupid? Look, even if she didn’t know anything when she did the Gibson ambush, she has learned enough in two weeks to hold up very well to a senator of thirty years on a national stage, unless you think Gwen gave her the questions before the debates. She may have been ignorant of issues a few weeks ago but she is pretty conversant on some really tough subjects now, I think that makes her pretty darn intelligent.

I watched the entire debate except the opening statements (nasty flu going around our house, ugh) I caught the opening statements later. Biden’s “lies”? No one is talking about Biden’s “lies” except extremist right wing nut jobs. Politicians ‘stretch’ the truth. I could go thru the list from that “stoptehACLU!!1!!1!!” site but my time is more valuable than debunking to such partisan bull. None of that list was backed up by any facts…. gee I wonder why? Oh because that list was a lame partisan hackjob. And the site? Lord help us if this is where dumbfarkistan gets their ‘facts’. The ACLU has a hammer and sickle? The ads are about the End Times and “Bare Naked Islam”? What a sack of crap.
As a lifelong NA/IND voter I look at shcb’s Republicans über alles! with nothing short of loathing. The fiscal stuff I used to think the Rs were ‘for’ has been shown to be a sad charade. I’ve never been ‘for’ the R platform of social issues. They could indeed nominate Mrs PotatoHead and the fanatics and racists are going to vote for it as teh bestest thing evar! Just to make sure you don’t dismiss my blanket charge of racism on the part of the fanatical Rs, perhaps you could google the incident of a teacher who wrote on the whiteboard “CHANGE = Come Help A Nigger Get Elected”. Or dear shcb’s wwnj talking pint that the whole bailout thing is the fault of negroes and mexicans – just not factually based, but it resonates with the dregs, er I mean base.
I am not going to vote for someone who crams for a test. A couple weeks of lernin aint done her much gooder. And stop winking, that will go nowhere with other world leaders (other than our puppet states). I found her many winks very creepy.
Every poll I could find with any merit (ie conducted by a polling firm with a declared methodology, MoE etc) found Biden the winner. Except that Drudge web poll (o yeah there is an impartial observer, why is this idiot even listened to? because there are so many idiots stumbling about). No huge blunders by Mrs Moosehunt McMethlab, so its a solid win? No. It isn’t gotcha journalism to ask what her thoughts are on the Bush Doctrine. This is the biggest shift in US foreign policy of our lifetimes, that she didn’t have a clue, after repeated gentle reminders shows her to be unprepared to take on the role of Commander in Chief.
But she didn’t commit any huge gaffes, just lots of disconnected babble. Biden connected, Palin performed.

I thought it was cute that he was even a little smitten with that “dog gon it Joe” line. he really seemed to enjoy her company. you know I don’t put much trust in anything on blogs, that was the first one I found, they all seem to have the same 14 points. I think Joe won the battle but lost the war. if that weren’t true this thread would be three or four down the page by now.

shcb, I’m not a liberal because you say I am. You can repeat it as much as you like, but its never going to make it true. You on the other hand, continue to prove everything I say with your statements. Actually going to vote for a major party candidate represents an acknowledgment of the realities of the political landscape in America. Always voting straight party ticket represents either the rigid adherence to ideology, willful ignorance or some measure of combination. I’m going put you down for willful ignorance though, since you have to draw everyone here into two camps, again, you putting a label on someone doesn’t make it so, champ.
No one here is underestimating the value of having Palin on the ticket for McCain. It’s just that the rest of us see her addition to the ticket as the incredibly transparent move it always has been.
She doesn’t seem smarter than the average person, so men so old men don’t feel intimidated. She’s cute and she doesn’t have great credentials so soccer mom’s aren’t threatened. She’s religious and she’s a mom. Its a great laundry list for likability on the ticket, but none of it has anything to do with anything substantial at all.
Now that they’ve had her cramming and studying the words in bold print for a while she sounds less incoherent than a few weeks ago sure. At the same time she’s talking about how great it is that the Constitution is going to let her expand the vice president’s powers. (maybe someone took her aside and told her how much energy her state actually produces too) There’s a statement that shows just how much we need to watch her. Maybe she’s really Dick Cheney in a skirt.
Didn’t know anything with the Gibson ambush you say? That makes it not an ambush then, just makes her ignorant. Held up well… Again, you saying it doesn’t make it so. People were just very very impressed that she didn’t put her foot in her mouth like she had been doing, that’s all.

There’s no reason to talk about Palin anymore, she’s shown herself to be incompetent for a VP & at Mcain’s age & health an actuary analysis shows he has more than a one in four chance of death in the next four years. So if there’s been nothing on Lies dot com about her failings lately, I’d say because it’s sooo overdone elsewhere that it is just not newsworthy enuf for lies dot com.
She’s been lambasted on radio here as the clear loser in the debate and utterly unworthy of the VP position. There’s a pretty good flow-chart that explains her debate performance quite nicely. I assume you are talking about this quote?
She is of course right, although I am not sure how happy I am that she is thinking of going to the length I think she is planning. It of course isn’t unconstitutional since the constitution doesn’t really say what the duties of the vice president are, it isn’t without precedent either. The VP was kind of an afterthought in the Constitution. I am surprised Ms Spud Head is that versed in the history of the vice president. Of course if Hamilton hadn’t made the points he did in Federalist 68 we wouldn’t even be talking about this. Although if the VP were drawn from the Senate essentially the same thing would happen in reverse.
I was mad at the Democrats when they used the filibuster to block judges and the Republicans for letting them. This is what happens when you let liberals act like children, and then it escalates. At some point the Democrats will have the White House and Republicans will have the Senate and they (Democrats) will be able to essentially control the Senate from the White House if Palin sets this precedence. What do you think?

If you bring up the filibusters of judge appointments then, regardless of your desire to keep the focus on those particular filibusters, the whole subject of filibusters is ion the table.
It’s as if you were saying something must be done to limit the overfishing of sturgeon because it is making it difficult to supply Republican fundraisers with appetizers, when the real issue is that global fish stocks are a fraction of historical levels and as a result many historic fishing villages are now in poverty and their people are malnourished.
Don’t you get it? Your motives, tactics and willingness to stretch a partisian Republican argument far beyond the limits of reasonableness are transparent and that is making you, and narrow-minded autocrats like Bush, Cheney, McCain and Palin increasingly irrelevant.

What do I think? I’ll agree filibuster is childish, but that applies to anyone using it.
What I also think is its amazing you cling to this notion that you saying it makes it correct.
Mrs. Palin actually demonstrates either an ignorance of the duties and powers of the office she seeks or, in a blatant disrespect of the Constitution, wishes to usurp more powers. The VP has two duties, which are defined by the Constitution: to cast a vote in the event of a Senate deadlock and to preside over and certify the official vote count of the U.S. Electoral College, thats it. There is no Constitutional provision for an expansion of VP powers, scant attention payed doesn’t translate into wiggle room for the assumption of greater powers, as judicial rebukes against VP Cheney have shown.
While there is a precedent of referring to the Federalist Papers as representative of the framer’s thoughts, using them as the basis of constitutional interpretation has always been controversial. James Madison himself denied that they had authoritative character, stating in reference to the Constitution “the legitimate meaning of the Instrument must be derived from the text itself; or if a key is to be sought elsewhere, it must be not in the opinions or intentions of the Body which planned & proposed the Constitution, but in the sense attached to it by the people in their respective State Conventions where it recd. all the Authority which it possesses”
So the question is, Palin, doesn’t know or doesn’t care?

Actually the filibuster when used (very) sparingly is a legitimate tool of government. If you are willing to stand and talk for hours… delaying the business of government, it used to get noticed… with consequences, media opprobrium and public attention. When you use it 80 times in a couple years (a year?) at nearly triple the previous record, then something isn’t right.
It is called systematic obstruction. Pathological partisanship.
Putting Mrs Moosehunt into Cheney’s VP machine is like allowing a little girl to drive a tank (that one is for lefty – enjoy). Or John McCain to fly a plane.

I do not know the first thing about football, but give me a couple weeks of doing nothing but studying what’s going on in football and I bet I could conduct myself with a pro football coach, especially if he weren’t allowed to press me to elaborate on anything I say.
