Murtha is a politican. Period. I'm thinking that the reason some people attribute so much "honesty" being spouted whenever he opens his mouth is really closer to "he says what I'm thinking". His plan for immediate withdrawal, yet this apparent military concession about a quick redeploy force and an "over the rainbow"...er, I mean, "over the horizon" Marine presence, is a sham meant to appease the conservative contingent. Understand this: once the US leaves, there will be NO option for going back. The government will not support it. That is a political reality. Murtha knows this full well. To suggest otherwise, as Murtha does in his plan, is pure gamesmanship that reeks of dishonesty.

Regardless, the end game in Iraq for the US militarily is a matter of months away, not years. If, by this summer/fall there is still no sign of control in Bagdad or in the political will of the Iraqi government, the phased withdrawal will be put in motion.

What Gen. Bonkers needs is about 20, 000 more kittens to neutralize that string. He has to. He cannot let that string fall into the hands of madwomen who would use it to knit mittens and slippers.

If he does, then the string wins.
