Life vs. Freedom

A rant from another Bush hater, Amanda Marcotte of Pandagon, who for all her hatred has a fairly interesting analysis: Your freedom or your life?

Anyway, the thing about this stupid “culture of life” phrase is not just the hypocrisy. I have also noticed that two values that BushCo likes to fling around are “life” and “freedom”, but I have also noticed that the two are opposite values in their rhetoric. You can have freedom or life, but not both. They are pretty consistent in this viewpoint, and if they evoke freedom, you can be sure they are covering up for someone’s death, and if they evoke “life”, you can be sure they are trying to take away your freedoms.

  1. Rise Against Says:

When he was governor of Texas, George W. Bush presided over 152 executions, more than took place in the rest of the country combined. In at least a few of these cases, reasonable doubts about the guilt of the condemned were raised. But Bush cut his personal review time for each case from a half hour to a mere 15 minutes (most other governors spend many hours reviewing each capital case to assure themselves that there’s no doubt of guilt).

    Are you kidding me?
This is what our nation is built on..Freedom. Yes we have to fight for it, that is our history, that is what we are proud of, there is no hiding of the deaths of those who faught for our country.

Additionally, yes it is going to take deaths in Iraq, but would you rather Hussein stay in power and continue to kill thousands per year? What I don’t get is how that is a suprise to you. What about those who “died for our country and freedom” is that something you have never heard before?

And in regards ti RISE AGAINST, i know for a fact that you made up your fact in the parenthesis about governors spending many hours reviewing each capital case. And i’m not so sure you didn’t make up the part outside the parenthesis either
