I must say you all have a right to protest, however much I may disagree with your cause and not understand what you are trying to accomplish.
When conservatives stage a protest, they have a specific goal in mind, such as making an abortion clinic shut down for the day. What is supposed to change because of inaugural protest? That’s not a challenge, just an honest informational question. Feel free to enlighten me.

Since I don’t see it, I think my earlier comment was either blocked or hasn’t shown up yet or wasn’t transmitted correctly. I asked the question, “What are these inaugural protests meant to accomplish?”

I saw the entirity of the Speech, and I am appalled. I saw few protests and the most effective I saw was two men turning their backs holding up a Sign “Liar” while Bush walked on the Parade. That was something to see…I sure hope Bush saw the Sign with their backs turned on HIM. LOL
I am ever more appalled when I heard that the Bush Family has Ass warmers on their seats or Space Heaters during the Inauguration to keep them warm, rather than Chilly. I don’t think it is fair for the other 100,000 People who watched the Inauguration and froze their ass off for an hour while the Bushies kept warm and cozy with their Ass warmers. Then their Expensive Balls, Expensive Dinner and Luncheon which consists of Quails and Steaks…and Parties, the most Expensive ever in History of $50 Million Worth including Security.
I am more appalled that Bush did not seek to put the money in the National Deficit of $2 Trillion dollars or to donate it for Tsunami Disaster Fund, Bush managed to donate $10,000 of his own Personal Money while they bought an extravagant Wardrobes for the First Lady and the two Daughters with the most Famous Designer Renata, which I heard worth Million of Dollars worth of all Wardrobes for the Inauguration Celebration.
The Speech of “Freedom” to the World sure tops it all off and making the World a Hell Place to be….Bush is looking to make permanent Enemies, that is a Guarantee. He is going to piss off the World Tyrannt Countries. He is going to make himself look like the “Fool” if he is going to Rule the World himself. It will be Expensive indeed if he were to take it to them and change the Regimes…My guess the top of the List like they are eyeing right now — Iran….
Most unfortunate Day in HISTORY OF THE WORLD. World War 3 will be unleashed and caused by the only Man- a Cow Boy Wannabee, who wants to rule the World…just like Hitler wants. Just horrible, do I need to say more?

OK trying to meet you halfway here – I supported Bush as the best alternative to the Kerry/Gore people. I do think the inauguration bonanza was overdone, especially when nothing’s changing. But what politician wouldn’t have done the same thing? I think Bush is turning our country into the United States of Mexico but at least Saddamland was turned into the United States of Iraq first.

In fact, this reminds me of one of the few witty things ever said by Mr. W. there was a meeting of iraquis organizing their new government and drafting a constitution or something. W said, “There were even some protesters outside the meeting” Momentary disbelief that he could have just said such a thing, and then ” – a sure sign of freedom.”
In Saddam’s iraq, there were no protests. There was no calling Saddam a liar, a corrupt bastard and a fool though he probably was all of those things.
That’s why I don’t understand your protest efforts. They are self-defeating, they disprove many of your main points.

Washington Post says voter turnout in the United States was 60.7% in our recent elections, and there wasn’t even any evil terrorists trying to blow us up for voting!

So chances are there was a higher voter turnout in Iraq than in the United States! But of course nothing good will ever happen in the world until a Democrat is in the White House right? You’ll find some way to illegitimaize this, probably thru simply ignoring it as an inconvienient fact.

Do you know I am actually serious about this WMD crack? These elections are being used as a weapon in the psychological war I’ve been talking about. one things of all the little people in the surrounding countries who are wondering what this “vote” thing is that the iraqis are doing because of the americans…. “you mean they actually get to choose who is going to be their dictator? what? no dictator? has everyone over there gone crazy?”

The elections in Iraq may be a step in the right direction, but I think you are jumping to conclusions to say that the “high voter turnout” means much of anything just yet. Vietnam had a “Free and Democratic” election with reported high voter turnout back in the sixties. Unfortunately, it didn’t mean success or peace for our country. Hopefully things will turn out better this go around.

don’t you think the phrase “peace protest” is a fundamentally contradictory idea?
it strikes me as odd that even though im asking a question pointed toward “Yes” answer that is negative toward the so-called “peace protesters,” a good Communist would automatically answer “Yes” answer and proceed to explain that that is exactly why the peace protests must take place.
