Kottke on Fahrenheit 9/11
Can’t throw a rock without hitting a Fahrenheit 9/11 review these days. Here’s one by Jason Kottke that I found interesting: Fahrenheit 9/11.

I see the author’s point in that this movie is pure polemic, and that Moore is using some of the same tactics as the Bush administration. However, I think it’s worth arguing that the only way to combat the Bush administration’s propaganda campaign is with a progressive propaganda campaign. Moore is presenting his film as a message of opposition politics (as indicated by the title’s Bradbury refernce), not a news report.
I also have trouble with this:
Whether Moore intended it to or not…this film is not meant to change your mind or sway opinion.
For one thing, this sentence doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But more importantly, Moore has cited interviews with focus group audiences which seem to indicate that undecided viewers who watch F9/11 are in fact swayed toward Kerry. This is from a New York Times article from last Sunday, I believe.

Every American knows that Bush has an agenda. I knew about Bush and his Bin Laddin ties before the movie came out. I never support the war in Iraq, and I have a personal problem with how liitle effort has been placed to catcher Bin Laddin. Bush has placed our young troops in harms way. We, as the American people, need to protect our soldiers from their commander and Cheif- Our President, george W. Bush. He is the biggest threat to American families and American security. Moore just display the side that the media was to afarid to touch. Don’t blame him for our stupidity. The only thing Americans can do is vote for Kerry.
