War is brutal. You don’t go into it blindly, without a plan, unless you’re provoked. Afghanistan I can understand. We were attacked and we had to act fast in order to neutralize the threat. Iraq is a different story. There was no palpable evidence of immediate threat. We went in there blindly and treated it as a rescue mission of an entire country. It’s like a repeat of the Vietnam war. Our military will be in Iraq for a very long time or else it will revert back to what it was or worse. We had Vietnam, but we didn’t take any of the lessons learned into consideration when we invaded Iraq. We were unprepared without contingencies. We should have planned better. We had the time. There was no immediate threat and apparently Bush knew that, but he wanted to strike while the iron was still hot.
