Mary Magdalene’s Secret
I must have been one of the last people on earth to finally get around to reading The Da Vinci Code. Anyway, I finally did, and besides being deeply envious of its Amazon sales rank, I found myself enjoying (as everyone else has, apparently) the fun conspiracy theory about how the early Church arranged to rub out the truth about how Mary Magdalene was actually Jesus’ wife and his intended spiritual successor. Anyway, for those uncomfortable with getting their conspiracy theories from bestselling potboilers, Time has an article on the subject that, while it doesn’t go as far in its claims, at least includes them among the list of positions taken by modern-day Magdalene obsessives: Mary Magdalene: Saint or Sinner?
So, I wonder how Mel handles this issue in his new movie? Something tells me he probably hews pretty close to traditional Church dogma. If so, and if traditional Church dogma about Magdalene actually was the product of a 6th-century hatchet job, there’d be a certain irony in his having worked so hard to shore up the false version of Magdalene’s role in the name of staying “true” to Christianity’s “oldest” traditions.

Conspiracies are about as old as mankind. I can even throw in a book that supposedly reveals a discovered text written by Thomas, one of Christ’s disiples (AKA, the “Doubting Thomas”), who may not have believed in the resurrection of Jesus. These writings were alleged by the author to have also been ordered to be destroyed by the leaders of the early Christian church.
I can guarantee that those scenarios will not be covered in Mel’s movie. He has said that he will be trying to follow a faithful biblical presentation of the events. That is, the story as it is established within the actual Gospels of the Bible.

You’re right. I think we should throw out anything that has stood the test of thousands of years of literary and scholarly research by a conspiracy theory.
Sheesh! Gimme a break…

I read the The Da Vinci Code and it seems to me that if there are truth to the point that Jesus did have a wife, and was covered in some ancient conspiracy to control the masses in rome and the civilized world. I would think that we all have come to an age where the truth should and can be finally told and accepted.
Yes, there will be ramifications, but how bad will they be? Jesus himself said that the truth will set you free….maybe we should follow suit?

i have read the da vinci’s code and its my first time reading a conspiracy novel…and i think everyone deserves to know the truth…but the thing is…are we prepared to the changes with regards to our faith???

OK, it’s a novel… ;-) And a bloody good read.
But it certainly raises some awkward questions and I wonder how much fact there is behind the fiction…

Before believing any of the esoteric secrets, first ask what purpose do they serve? Is it to knock Christianity, encourage a more secular world, weaken Christianity to empower Islam? If Jesus had a wife, it isn’t proof that he wasn’t divine. Perhaps he left her to spend his time in the wildeness before coming back a ‘changed’ man. The point is, it is very easy to come up with just about anything with such a story as that of Jesus. I don’t go to church, I’m not a catholic but I do wonder what purpose all of this conspiracy stuff serves. There is nothing more powerful than a secret, except perhaps the rumour of a
secret. If there were any truth in any of it, it would have surfaced long ago when it actually mattered. Still, it’s all good fun if you have ‘eyes to see’ and can see it for what it is.

i believe jesus had a wife but i am not a christian myself. but if jeasus did have a wife the catholic church will be greatly embarassed.
i think that the amount of truth in “the da vinci code” is a great deal beacuse it is all common sense that we dont realise and people still dont understand. but if there is an organistion that held the secret i would let them be.
imagine what ould happen if they were found out!, court cases sewes the whole lot so lets just think about the conspiracy and the holy grail for now…….

It turns out that “the Priory of Sion” was organized in 1956, with Pierre Plantard as its Grand Master, an anti-Semite with a criminal record for fraud. Its background was, indeed, “proven” by a cache of documents that were “discovered” in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris.
However, they were planted there by Pierre Plantard himself! One of his henchmen admitted to assisting him in the fabrication of these materials, including the genealogical tables and lists of the Priory’s grand masters. This hoax was exposed in a series of French books and a BBC documentary in 1996 (“Merovingian conspiracy”).
To claim membership of these famous persons is actually an assault on their respective memories and reputations. And Leonardo da Vinci’s alleged involvement is, of course, fundamental to Brown’s storyline.

Well I read the book by Brown and I do think the Catholics are over reacting. Even if Jesus was married does that bring down his greatness? There is no need for you people to make so much fuss. I am not a Christian but as a Hindu I do respect all the religions. I belive that Jesus was a great messiah and whether he was married or not does not make any difference. Let the truth prevail whatever it is. Don’t you think that Jesus is capable enough to see and control whatever is happening? I am quite sure that the life and teachings of Jesus will come out more effective once this settles down. Do not belive that anything in this world happens without God’s consent.

Have some faith people. So you read the Da Vinci Code and it screwed up your entire set of beleifs. Have some faith. “With out faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please Him.” No Jesus didnot have a wife. No he did not have children. That would be just like what Paul rebuked the Greek Christians for doing – trying to incorporate their old beliefs about what deities they used to belive in with the new TRUTH that was and is Christianity. Gods (especially sine ther is only one God, Yahweh) do not spawn half god half human offspring just for fun or something. Jesus was not half god even though his mother was human. HE WAS FULLY GOD AND FULLY MAN. That is where faith takes a big role. Incorporating the idea of the Divine Feminine is nothing more than a Heresy in which two extremely opposing beleifs are trying to be made into one. There is God the Father who created heaven and earth. There is Jesus Christ his only begitten son who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. The bible is very clear that Jesus is the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD. If Jesus had sons with Mary Magdalene, wouldn’t that be God having more (bloodline) sons in the same way that David or any other Jew is called a Son of Abraham? That would mean God has other blood descendants walking the Earth. Yes I have read the Book. The entire concept is scandalous. No I am not Catholic. I don’t object because it shames the Catholic Church. The Catholic church has in the past dome some shameful things. But that doesn’t mean that Catholic people are not saved. It just means that some leaders in the past have done some things that God does not approve of. Politics and religion can not, do not, and should not be spliced together. The result is disastrous and usually blasphemous. Have some faith. Go get saved. If you would like to know how, talk to me. Give me an email. (weisennick@hotmail.com) I would be more than happy to share the truth with anyone. Dont tell me that Jesus isn’t real. I Know. I’m saved. I’ve met Him. He changed my life and he longs to change yours.

Plus the only reason why Mary Magdalene is such an important figure in the Gospels is because in the time of Jesus, women were considered second class citizens, and Jesus was only pointing out that all people are equal in the sight of God. Women are just as loved by God as men. Women can be just as important in the spread of the Gospel as men. Look at Deborah in the Old Testament. Look at Ruth, who was not even a beleiver, but, after taking Yahweh as her God, became part of the family tree of David, the King whose Throne Christ Fulfills. Mary Magdalene was a worshipper becase she loved Christ for freeing her from “seven Demons” He set her free and told her that she was not a second class citizen. Her and all women. But he set all men free as well. HE IS STILL SETTING PEOPLE FREE TODAY BECAUSE HE IS RISEN. His blood that was shed on the cross is the final sacrifice. God has opened the door to himself and asked us to walk through it. All you have to do is say “Jesus, I want to be free, and I know that you are the only way.” Whatever you are dealing with is NOT higher than God. He can free you from all bondage and bring you such peace that you have never imagined. Mary MAgdalene came to the tomb first maybe because she loved Him more than the other disciples. NOT BECAUSE HE LOVED HER MORE. GOD LOVES ALL PEOPLE EQUALLY. Really Jesus was the first feminist. He said that women were equal. That does not mean that men and women do not have distinct places, but one is no higher than the other. There is only one who is lifted up high and that is God, and the risen king, Christ is seated at his right hand. There is no divine feminine. Even the term “MOTHER NATURE” is just left over from early pre-christiam Nature worship of the Divine Feminine. But “test the spirits and see which are from God.” Anything not of God is of Satan. Yes it really is that clear and no I am not a fanatic. I am simply in love with the One who loved me first. There is only ONE bride of Christ and that is the Church. Not the catholic church or any other church, but the true church, the faithful christians who belive. The people of God.

Well i would rather beleive the stuff in the da vinci code than the stuff they trie to tell us in church b/c it seems to me that its the closest thing to the truth ive heard all my life….i personally think the church is trying to hide something and that the something their trying to hide is the fact that jesus was married and did have a child named sarah and that the reason they did hide thoses facts are b/c the 2 royal bloodlines coming together would completely destroy the churchs lies they have been telling about jesus christ, not to mention the Christion belief which was built on the lies they have told and the history they have erased.

Everyone keeps saying if the secret was out years ago..But if you acctually pay attention what people are trying to say it that it was out years ago. We just didn’t pay attention. Kinda like global warming, we know its happening but we just seem to be ignoring the signs and keep on filling up our suv’s and wasting lots of food and so on. The signs have been there all along and all the information has been avalible but we have been blinded and taught to ingore it. No Jesus and Mary being a couple would not complety destroy everything, heck the people writing this know it and look the world hasn’t colapsed. You just happen to be a little wiser than the next person. It doesnt mean that christianty has to be ebolished, it just means that we all respect the religouse choies people make like we have been doing for thousands of years already. Besides, Jesus did have a good message for his followers, and its not their fault that history was corrupt. I dont beleive in any religion and I went to catholic elementary school and church as a youth. Now I just beleive in what I want to. I just try to be fair, and good and a giving person and I think that is all that I need to hold myself to.

I think that if your not sure about the truth then one should look into what they believe. I am a Christian of almost 10 years and know that Jesus is real. For anyone to beleive that they would have to talk to Christ themselves. But rather to believe a movie that just came out over a bible that has been around for years and years is not a good idea. I also beleive that one of the reasons why people just want to try to be good and live there life how ever they want to is because they dont want to follow The Way The TRuth and The Life, Jesus. I dare anyone reading this to talk to God and ask Him to show himself to you in a way that you wont be able to doubt. There is a web site called dr.dino which gives biblical info on the earth and evolution. Try it out see for your self. Christ is real and your life is real and everyone will die one day there is no way around it. Please do not be foolish and not look into were your sole is going. Cry out to Jesus give God a chance. Dont beleive a lie so that you can go on living your life how ever you want to. There is a way [which seems] right to a man, But its end is the way of death proverbs 14:12. I am not close minded but rather have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ he is real, I talk to Him, Feel His presence when I spend time with Him and worship Him. He loves everyone and wishes that no one goes to hell. May Jesus Bless you all.
