The Decline and Fall of the F-word

The Guardian has an interesting piece on the growing acceptance in Britain of the word fuck. My favorite head-scratch-inducing quote: “In research, 50% or more people said the words that should never be broadcast are cunt, motherfucker, nigger, Paki and spastic. Young women also don’t like whore, slag and twat. But fuck wasn’t on the list.” Spastic? Anyway, thanks to plastic for the link.

wow, it’s really strange how in almost no cases to the offensiveness of words line up between the US and britain. the word “wanker” isn’t completely unoffensive there? and yeah, “spastic” is really baffling. I think I’m going to call somebody a spastic wanker tomorrow for the fuck of it.

I’m going to call my roomate a spastic slag and see if she’s offended. I mean, really, with so few words being cross-culturally offensive, do polls even mean a damned thing?

Spastic is an insult for someone who is mentally dissabled. i dont use it myself as its not the fault of the disabled person that they are as they are.
