In the story of the Lion King, Scarface becomes the leader by immoral means. Although legal in the lion kingdom (just as it is legal in this country to have your brother be in charge of the state that made the difference), causing the death of the rightful leader is how Scarface became the new king. Then while in power he ran their economy into the ground (feeding the scavengers) rather than looking out for those he was ruling. Although it is just a story, there are interesting parallels with Bush's election and our subsequent economic fall. Beware of Simba, GW. He will come to get you. But will a king come in time, john scott or great scott will he come at all. Will he manage to fight a war against satan without arming him with his favorite weapons, spirit breaking, human degradation thorough massive disappointments and humiliation and betrayal on the largest order. maybe the royal throne will be won and hopefully the winner wont look like the same person who just lost it. who at least didnt pretend he was poor or had the extremem bad taste to say he thoght anyone could do or become anyone, something only a spoiled rich little "-uc" could utter with a straight face. hooray heydoo and cabulous day, i guess a camel can go through the eye of needle or why did he know they were coming? marinam pissedoffatthisto the deathski.

Interesting. I never thought of that connection. Though I guess the parallel would have been closer if Clinton (Mufasa) had lost his life (or his political life, maybe) saving the young king-to-be in a dubya-engineered "accident." Maybe you could view Clinton and Gore collectively as playing the role of Mufasa, with Simba being one of the lion cub Democrats due to assume the mantle of king in 2004 (or, God help us, in 2008, or later). -- JohnCallender

Interesting. I never thought of that connection like that. I'd put the parallel closer to Clinton being Scarface, with Mufasa being RR and George Sr. rolled into one (let's just call "Reaganomics" the first king). Clinton stayed in office for eight years lieing, cheating (most notably on his wife), and sleeping with the wolves (drug lords). Along comes GW to depose the evil Scarface. A mighty battle ensues in which he is aided by his band of brother(s) (Bro & Court) against the evil jackals (recounters who wouldn't stop until every ballot was chadless). He finds that the economy is hyped to 10K plus by corporations (evil jackals) which have not had to follow "his father's" rules. He finds that his dealings with other animals (foreign policy) is so bad that the cranes are willing to suicide bomb him. He slaps some of the jackals around and they fall into place. Then he starts rebuilding the circle of life. I agree, there are some interesting parallels in Bush's election and subsequent economic fall.

I get really tired of the kind of criticism of Clinton that seems so popular among some groups. He certainly wasn't a perfect president, but seriously. His term was marked by prosperity and peace and progress in a lot of areas. But "oh my god, he cheated on his wife and lied about it!!!!" Who.. the hell.. cares. Find me a president of modern times who wasn't a huge liar in one way or another. Of all possible things, if the President wants to lie about his personal life, I say go right ahead because it's nobody's damn business but his own. What I care about is when our President lies consistently about matters of substance, such as reasons for launching war against a sovreign nation, and you can't possibly deny that our current one has been repeatedly guilty of that. - ymatt
