Observations by vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com:

M65 (Galaxy, in Leo)
Observer: Vedran vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: light   Transparency: good   Seeing: poor
Time: Thu Dec 8 04:40:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1429

This morning I woke up to go to school. When I looked thru window I have noticed that there's no fog or clouds and lots of stars wherevisible. I quickly dressed up and went outside to look thru scope since this was first night without fog and clouds in last two monts. The Leo was high at the south and I decided to hunt M65 and the M66. I have put the 32mm eyepiece (38x) and pointed scope to the Theta Leonis. Just few degrees to the south I saw 3 galaxies in FOV. Since sky was to bright at 38x i used the 15mm wide angle eyepiece (80x) and all 3 galaxies where still in one FOV but with much better contrast.M65 was long oval nebula with no defined center, the M66 was little smaller but more round oval than M65. M66 also had bright center. NGC3628 was big, but much fainter and almost horizontally laid nebula. After amazing Leo triplet i turned scope to the M51. M51 with companion was easily visible. M51 looked like round disk with uneven surface brightnes and bright center. NGC5195 was smaller (about 1/5) and looked like small globular cluster thru 70mm scope. After looking at the M51 I turn scope litlle lower and changed eyepiece back to the 32mm Plossl. When I looked thru the eyepiece and focused I saw M3 inf FOV. "Am I lucky guy ornot?" I thought. Since it was GC i switched to the 6mm Plossl eyepice and looked again at M3. What a superb cluster. Withaverted vision thousand of stars where visible. After this shorth breathtaking sight I finished my observing session becouse it was time to goto the school. I can't waith for March when this object will be visible in the evening.

NGC1023 (Galaxy, in Perseus)
Observer: Vedran vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: fair
Time: Mon Nov 28 17:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1422

This is pretty bright galaxy in Perseus. I used 80x TS WA eyepiece with real FOV around 0.85. Galaxy appeared with small round center and larger, fainter halo stretching about 2' from both sides of core.

NGC1342 (Open Cluster, in Perseus)
Observer: Vedran vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: fair
Time: Mon Nov 28 17:10:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1423

When I found this open cluster I was astonished. Clusters central stars looked like constellation Scorpius. In the same place where would be Graffias (BET Sco) was double star :). From now, in my logs, this cluster bears nickname "Little Scorpius".

M33 (Pinwheel Galaxy) (Galaxy, in Triangulum)
Observer: Vedran Vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: light   Transparency: excellent   Seeing: poor
Time: Fri Sep 30 21:15:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1346

This night was excellent for DS observing. Transparency was almost perfect but dew in the air caused poor seeing. I started my classic DS tour - M31 (with companions), M33 and Double Cluster. While observing M31 i found NGC206 - star cloud (similar to M24 in our galaxy. It was faint, moderate in size and stretched in NE-SW direction.M33 was bright this night. Finally i was able to see spiral arms. They looked like letter "S" with bright core in the middle. Double Cluster was amazing. At 38x and 1.4FOV I saw hunderds of stars. That is what makes astronomy wonderful hobby. Sugar at the end! I spoted Helix Nebula in Aquarius. Nebula was moderate in size, faint in the middle and brighter at the edge.

NGC7009 (Planetary Nebula, in Aquarius)
Observer: Vedran Vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: light   Transparency: excellent   Seeing: good
Time: Mon Sep 5 02:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1303

This night I was searching for M72 and M73 in western Aquarius. After finding M72 I started starhopping to M73. In first step I made big mistaked (stupid me). When I looked in eyepiece I saw bright fuzzy star. I told myself "There is M73." After pumping magnification I realised that this is not M73. After cheking location in Redshift Planetarium I realised that "M73" was Saturn Nebula.Saturn Nebula appeard small, very bright and elliptical.

Mars (Planet, est. mag -0.6, est. to be in Aries)
Observer: Vedran Vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: light   Transparency: excellent   Seeing: good
Time: Wed Aug 10 02:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1284

I'm observing Mars with my new scope for just 3 weeks almost every clear night. Its very hard target but practice makes it perfect. This night I saw Syrtis Major, large dark triangular area, Hellas - bright region souht of Syrtis Major and SPC. I also saw Arabia (lighter pacth in north-west of Syrtis Major) and Mare Serpentis (it looked like lighter extension of Syrtis Major in the west) and Mare Australe (dark ring around SPC).

M74 (Galaxy, in Pisces)
Observer: Vedran vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: light   Transparency: excellent   Seeing: good
Time: Wed Aug 10 02:00:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1282

Large and dim galaxy. Galaxy apeared to me like round nebula about 8 - 10' in size.

M57 (Ring Nebula) (Planetary Nebula, in Lyra)
Observer: Vedran Vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: light   Transparency: fair   Seeing: good
Time: Mon Jul 25 22:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1270

I tried to find M57 with 3" scope and I failed. In 8" it was bright and larger than i thought at 38x. At 133x it looked like eye with brighter edge.

M8 (Lagoon Nebula) (Bright Nebula, in Sagittarius)
Observer: Vedran Vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: fair   Seeing: good
Time: Mon Jul 25 22:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1269

Its belived that M8 is easy target for amateur astronomer, but not for me. In 3" scope I could only see open cluster without trace of nebulosity. In 8" dob i saw open cluster and small nebula in SE.

M13 (Hercules Cluster) (Globular Cluster, in Hercules)
Observer: Vedran Vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: light   Transparency: fair   Seeing: good
Time: Mon Jul 25 22:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1268

I just bought my 8" Dob. I decided to test dob on my favorite target, M13. At 38x cluster was a bright round fuzzy, but at 80x i show countless star. At 200x only core wasn't resovled. M13 gave me superb views.

M13 (Hercules Cluster) (Globular Cluster, in Hercules, Est. RaDec 16.7 36.5)
Observer: Vedran (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 76-mm other   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: fair   Seeing: good
Time: Fri May 27 22:00:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1245

When I first observed M13 it seemed incredibly dim to me. Now its a standard DS object on my observing list.Through my 76mm scope it looks like round bright nebula with granulated edge at 38x. I estimated size to 5 arc minutes.Higher magnification (56x and 117x) only dim this wonderful object.

Mars (Planet, est. mag -2, est. to be in Taurus)
Observer: Vedran vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: severe   Transparency: poor   Seeing: excellent
Time: Fri Oct 13 22:00:00 2000 UT   Obs. no.: 1349

It was "the night". Transparency was poor (fog) and first quater Moon but seeing was almost perfect. From my terrace I looked at Mars through 8"F6 GSO dobson. Sinus Sabea was easily visible, and Oxia Palus apperad as straight gray line near eastern limb. Deucalions Regio was bright "land" between Sabaea and Pandorae Fretum. At souht near limb was bright orange patch - Argyre. SPC was small, maybe 1/15 of disk diameter. At north-west were Syrtis Major and Iapygia Viridis. Hellas was little more to the south. Arabia was bright and oragne. NPH was white.

M22 (Globular Cluster, in Sagittarius)
Observer: Vedran Vrhovac (e-mail: vedran_vrhovac@yahoo.com)
Instrument: 8-inch Dobsonian reflector   Location: Velika Gorica, Croatia
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: poor   Seeing: fair
Time: Sat Aug 12 21:30:00 2000 UT   Obs. no.: 1283

Afeter observing Moon I decided to take a quick look at M22. At 38x it appeared elliptical. Higher magnification (80x)showed me partial resolution near edges. Soon clouds came and I decided to finish my observations.
